Setting Up Wishlist Notifications via SMS

Introduction

SMS notifications can engage customers more effectively and prompt immediate action. Statistics show that SMS open rates can reach as high as 98%, making them one of the most impactful communication channels available today. This guide will walk you through the steps to set up SMS notifications for wishlist updates, price changes, and back-in-stock alerts on your e-commerce platform, helping you leverage this powerful tool to enhance customer interactions and drive sales.

Prerequisites

Before you start, ensure that you have:

  • An active account with SMS marketing tools such as Klaviyo, Yotpo, or Attentive.
  • Integrated these tools with your e-commerce platform.

PART 1: Integration and Trigger Setup on Swym Admin

Step 1: Access Wishlist Plus Configuration

  • Navigate to ‘Wishlist Plus’ under the ‘Configure’ section in the Swym Admin to open the configurations page.

Step 2: Manage Marketing Features

  • Click ‘Manage’ next to “Use SMS to notify Shoppers about their Wishlisted Products.”

Step 3: Set Up SMS Integration

  • Choose Klaviyo or Yotpo from the list of supported SMS providers. Click ‘configure’ and enable the SMS checkbox to begin sending SMS events.
  • For Klaviyo, click on configure and enable the SMS checkbox to start sending SMS events to Klaviyo integration 
  • For Yotpo, click on configure and enable the SMS checkbox to start sending SMS events to Yotpo integration 

Step 4: Configure Triggers

  • Select the triggers for SMS notifications:
    • Item added to Wishlist
    • Wishlist reminder alert
    • Saved for Later reminder alert
    • Low Stock alert
    • Price Drop alert
    • Back in Stock alert

Step 5: Choose Notification Channel Settings

  • Once the integration with either Klaviyo or Yotpo is active, you can then choose the Notification Channel Settings from the SMS settings page to determine your communication strategy. There are three options:
    • Both Email and SMS: Send both email event and SMS event. If the shopper hasn’t provided his Email ID or phone number to the store, then the channel is skipped
    • Email with SMS Fallback: Send an email event to the shopper but if the Email ID is not provided to the store, then send out an SMS event instead SMS with Email Fallback: Send an SMS event to the shopper, but if the phone number is not provided to the store, then send out an email event instead
    • SMS with Email Fallback: Send an SMS event to the shopper, but if the phone number is not provided to the store, then send out an email event instead

Note: The Swym platform itself doesn’t send SMS. Instead, it sends an event to Klaviyo or Yotpo, through which the actual SMS will have to be sent.

Fallback Logic:

  • Email with SMS Fallback: The Swym platform checks if the notification can be sent through Email (the customer’s profile stored on the platform should have an Email ID associated). If not, the platform checks if it can be sent through SMS. For this fallback to kick in, the customer’s phone number should be available in the customer profile.
  • SMS with Email Fallback: The Swym platform checks if the notification can be sent through SMS (the customer’s profile stored on the platform should have a phone number associated).  If not, then the platform checks if it can be sent via Email. The customer’s Email ID should be available in the customer profile for this fallback to kick in.

Consent Management:

  • Swym Platform doesn’t check for Shopper Consent before sending the event to Klaviyo or Yotpo. The actual consent check has to be done by the ESP/SMS service provider before sending out the SMS

PART 2: Setting up the Flows on Klaviyo/Yotpo

Once you have configured the integration and triggers, the final step is to set up the communication flows on Klaviyo or Yotpo.

Important Note: Proper flow setup on Klaviyo or Yotpo is crucial. Without this, events will be recorded but no notifications will be sent.
