Setting Up Klaviyo to Send SMS Flows

Introduction

Setting up SMS flows in Klaviyo is similar to setting up email flows. Detailed playbooks for setting up email flows are available on our site, which can also guide your SMS setup.

SMS Event Identification

The Swym platform can send both Email and SMS notifications for the same event, depending on your configured Channel Notification Settings. These settings allow you to tailor your communication strategy effectively.

To distinguish between email and SMS notifications, Swym events include a field called “Medium”, which can be set to either “email” or “sms”. This field determines the notification method.

Using the ‘Medium’ Field for Setting Flows

If you send notifications exclusively through one channel (only email or only SMS), the “Medium” field does not affect your flow setup. Your flow will continue to send notifications through the configured channel.

However, if you are utilizing both email and SMS notifications from your Klaviyo account, you will need to add a check for the “Medium” field to ensure that notifications are sent through the correct channel:

• Add a ‘Trigger Split’ in your Klaviyo flow for each of the triggers supported by Wishlist.
• Check if “Medium” equals “sms”

• If the ‘Trigger Split’ evaluates to Yes, set up the flow to send SMS notifications.
• If No, continue to send email notifications as usual.

Modifying Existing Email Flows for Wishlist Events

If you already have email flows for Wishlist events and wish to incorporate SMS, you will need to modify these flows:

• Edit the existing flow to include the ‘Trigger Split’ as described above.
• Configure the action for “No” to continue sending email notifications.
• For “Yes,” set up a new action to send out SMS notifications.
