How to identify anonymous users using Wishlist on your site?

One of the biggest challenges you can face as an eCommerce store is to know all of your users. Anonymous shoppers constitute more than 80% of all your site visits according to most benchmarks. 

Moreover the cost of acquiring a new customer is 5 to 25 times more expensive than retaining an existing one according to Harvard Business Review. Some benchmarks also suggest that by increasing retention rates by just 5% improves profitability by more than 25%. 

Therefore identifying and engaging with your anonymous users becomes a key part in your retention strategy and you’d want to know everything about a high intent shopper. To help you with identifying anonymous users, Wishlist Plus provides you with an ability to prompt high intent shoppers when they add a product into the Wishlist. This prompt asks the shopper for their email id and / or Phone Number so you can add them to your remarketing lists and help them make a purchase decision by nudging at the right moment with your marketing flows on multiple channels.

To start identifying anonymous shoppers using Wishlist, please follow these steps:

Step 1: Navigate to the configure page and navigate to the “Capture Email and Phone numbers of Wishlist Plus users” section under Marketing Features

Step 2: Click on “Enable” to turn the feature on and customise the popup

Step 3: Choose if you want to capture Email Ids and / or phone numbers. You can additionally choose if you want to make both the fields mandatory or any one field mandatory in case you choose to capture both email ids and phone numbers

Note: If you choose to capture phone numbers, you will be prompted to set up an optional integration with an SMS marketing automation tool if you have a double opt-in workflow. We currently support integrations with Yotpo SMSBump, Klaviyo and Attentive.

If you don’t have any SMS marketing tool, then the phone numbers are captured and stored in the Swym platform.

Step 4: Once you have chosen the customer details that you want to capture, you can customize the pop-up that appears on the store for an anonymous user. With the customization options you can edit the strings on the popup, placeholder text, button styling and customise the success and error messages amongst other things.

Additionally you can preview the pop-up on both desktop and mobile.

Note: We provide options to customize the text at the bottom of the popup for you to link your privacy policy that can be accessed from the popup.

Step 4.1: If you have an email marketing automation platform to manage email ids, you can prompt the shopper to add themselves to a marketing list and receive newsletters and other offers. 

This can be enabled from the “Mailing List” section by checking the Mailing list checkbox. Once you have enabled the checkbox, you can customize the text prompting shoppers to add themselves to the mailing list. You can then choose the marketing tool to sync the email id that has been captured into the your newsletter list. 

Once you choose the integration, you will have to authenticate if you haven’t already done so and setup the integration.

Step 4.2: You can also upload an image from local drive to make the popup more appealing for the shoppers to provide their information. The image can be used to communicate any offers / promotions to drive sign ups.

The size and resolution requirements are listed to make sure that the image isn’t distorted and also loads fast.

Step 5: You can preview all the changes in the preview pane for both Desktop and Mobile views. The changes are reflected on the preview pane for you to review in real time

Step 6: Finally, you can click on “Publish” and save all the changes for all the customisations to take effect.

Great! You’ve successfully set up the popup to capture contact information of the most interested shoppers.

FAQs

What happens after a shopper submits email id and phone number?

Once the shopper submits the form, Swym sends a confirmation email. Once the shopper clicks on the validation link, Swym updates Shopify with the customer information. If the shopper has additionally requested to be added to the newsletter list, the email address is synced with the marketing tool / ESP that is integrated.

In the case of Phone Number, Swym syncs the number with the SMS marketing tool that has been integrated. If double opt-in is enabled, then Klaviyo, Attentive, SMSBump, etc will send a confirmation SMS to the shopper to confirm their consent. 

Once double opt-in/consent is confirmed, you can then start sending marketing messages including Wishlist related reminders and triggers. 

When does the Popup show up for a shopper?

The Popup shows up when an anonymous shopper adds a product into Wishlist. The shopper can submit their information but if they choose to close the popup then Swym doesn’t show the popup again for 24 hours. Post 24 hours, Swym shows the popup again after the shopper adds a product into Wishlist again.

In case the Shopper chooses to not provide their information by clicking on the secondary CTA of ‘Cancel” then Swym doesn’t show the popup again.

Can we limit the geographies of the Phone Numbers that are captured?

In the ‘Customise’ section, there is an option to choose the countries for which the phone numbers are to be captured. On the storefront, Swym ensures that only numbers from the chosen countries are captured.
