How Swym Made a Career Switch a Breeze

That’s how Swym Customer Support Representative Sonali Selvaraj describes leaving her previous career to join the company in an entirely new role.
Changing careers is never easy, but doing it in the middle of a global pandemic is even more challenging.
After her work in the travel industry was disrupted by COVID-19, Sonali had to start looking for a new path to pursue.
Though changing careers wasn’t the obvious choice, an exciting opportunity presented itself. Sonali interviewed with Swym for a customer support position and the rest is history.
“Changing your career path is obviously one of the hardest decisions you can make,” Sonali says, “You don’t know where it’s going to take you. You always wonder if you’re doing the right thing.”
Sometimes, taking a risk pays dividends. Thanks to support from Swym and its employees, Sonali found herself in an ideal situation.
“From day one, all people have done is make me feel very comfortable with my choices,” she says, “From interviewing to onboarding, people gave me examples of how they’ve changed careers and remind me that it’s okay.”
Throughout the pandemic, Swym has utilized a remote training program for its new employees. That doesn’t just mean hours of video calls, though. For those changing careers, Swym’s interactive, real-world approach to training is a perfect way to learn and build the skills necessary for a new position.
Sonali reflects on her experience, saying, “It was a very small onboarding group and there were a lot of hands-on experiences. We would work with actual customer tickets with our mentors and learn during the process.”
“There’s a lot of learning every day, but I didn’t feel like I was overdoing it or was stuck on calls all the time. Everything was new but it was the smoothest transition,” she adds.
Of course, it isn’t just the training that matters. Adjusting to life after a career change also means finding new reasons to love what you do. Fortunately, there is no shortage of reasons to love working at Swym.
“There are very few places where you get up and are excited to go to work,” Sonali says, “Here, I am, and that’s amazing.”
She adds, “Something I haven’t experienced before is the amount of ownership you have at Swym. You have a chance to make such good decisions in your work here, for the customers, the company, and yourself.”

She says, “Where I stand today, I don’t feel like I made a career change. I feel like I’ve been here all along.”
