An Interview with Meredith – Founder and Earring Maker in Chief, Bittybauble


Tell us about your business – your mission and what made you start this e-commerce website?

I started making my own earrings years ago when I got fed up with the high prices of gauges. Over time, I refined the process and started to make earrings for friends of mine as well. In 2017, we launched our site to make unique, feminine body jewellery more widely available. We don’t believe that affordable jewellery and body modification are mutually exclusive.

Which channels are bringing most traffic to your store? Which channels do you wish to use to reach more customers this year?

We’ve been very lucky to have reached so many people through Instagram. Using specific hashtags and becoming active on the platform has driven many visitors to our site. What made you choose Shopify for Bittybauble? How is it helping you accomplish your business goals?

I chose Shopify because it’s the most robust e-commerce platform available. Shopify gave us and other small business’ the chance to build and manage our own site with our own branding. The platform is also diverse enough, that there are no limitations to future growth! The variety of apps and themes available has done a lot to make our site unique and user friendly.

What is it that Bittybauble (as a business) wants to accomplish in 2017?

What I’d love to see in 2017 is an expansion into more sizes. We chose to focus on a 6-size range to get started, and it would be great to see a wider range available on our site. I would also love to create more custom products for our customers. I have a background in sourcing vintage items for weddings and other events, so I’d love for that to transfer over into Bittybauble as well.

What tools, apps, key metrics do you track and use to understand your business’ health? What apps do you use to help you with your backend?

We use the built in dashboard a lot. I love that tool because it gives me a straightforward breakdown of who is viewing the site and what they’re doing. Those metrics help us fine-tune our navigation as well as improve our marketing efforts. We use a couple of apps like Wishlist+ to give our customers more interactive options on the site, as well as get a sense of which products are most popular. I work with Facebook’s Business Manager a lot, too.

We love sharing more information about e-commerce best practices that we come across, with our customers. Would you have any cool trick or best practice that you recommend?

Be accessible!! Online shopping is becoming a much more interactive and social space. The best thing a business can do is make real people available to their customers. Not only will this help you connect with your audience, but it’s a great way to collect feedback and improve your business overall.
