Personalize your Mailchimp email campaigns using Swym

Shoppers rarely purchase on their first visit to your store. However, their intent to purchase is likely strong. The experience your site provides, combined with how effectively you are able to re-engage them and bring them back to your site will help improve the odds of converting them into a buyer. At Swym, our mission is to help you accomplish exactly that objective through our apps that you can seamlessly integrate into your e-commerce site. If you are using Mailchimp as your Email Service Provider to engage with your customers, the Swym apps can help you tailor those campaigns for each customer based on their interactions with your site.

What apps does Swym currently support?

The Swym platform powers multiple apps for your site that help you capture user context as its happening, and enable you to deliver a personalized experience for your users by leveraging that context. Note that our apps are limited to the Shopify platform at this time, and we are actively adding support for other e-commerce platforms. Here is a brief introduction to each of our apps:

  1. Wishlist Plus app – A smart Wishlist module for your site, allowing your customers to easily add their favorite products to their Wishlist.
  2. In Stock Alerts app – Allows your customers to sign up to receive automatic email alerts when out-of-stock products are restocked on the store.
  3. Triggered Email app – Keeps track of customer shopping journeys as they happen, and enable you to set up rules that can trigger personalized emails to these customers based on their shopping context – think Browse Abandonment, Cart Abandonment, Price Drops and the like.

What does the integration with Mailchimp involve?

The integration with Mailchimp has two parts to it. The first is to be able to capture user email in the context of these apps, and allow customers to opt-in to be automatically added to your store’s subscriber list. The Swym Mailchimp connector enables you to configure this feature by choosing the list you want these users to be added to. To connect your Mailchimp account to your Swym app, go to the Swym app Dashboard (can access from your Shopify admin console – Shopify Admin Console -> Apps -> [Swym App]) and select Mailchimp from the list of mailing list providers. Note that this option is only available on our paid plans. Once you select Mailchimp, you should see a link to “Connect with your Mailchimp account” – click this link and sign into your Mailchimp account.

The app will then fetch the list of available lists on your Mailchimp account, and you can select the List you want your users to be added into from the drop-down that displays these lists. Once enabled, anytime a customer opts-in to be added to your subscriber list while using one of the Swym apps, they will automatically be added to that list. You can then trigger your regular automation sequences to engage that user.

The second aspect of the Swym-Mailchimp integration is the ability to send these personalized trigger emails from your Mailchimp account. By default, the Swym apps can send these emails on your behalf via our internal email-handler, but you could optionally also configure them to be sent via your Email Service Provider. If you’d like the From address on your emails to reflect your domain/brand, you’d want to choose this option – it also gives you a lot more control over how you want to set these up, deliverability of your emails etc. In the case of Mailchimp, that would require enabling Mandrill on your Mailchimp account. Mandrill is the transactional email service that is provided by Mailchimp, and can be configured as a paid add-on for your Mailchimp account (requires a paid monthly Mailchimp account to add this – you can find more information on enabling Mandrill for your Mailchimp account here).

Once enabled, choose Mandrill by Mailchimp from the dropdown to define your Email sender configuration and specify the Mandrill API key for your account – you can find your Mandrill API key by following the steps in this blog post). Copy-paste the API key from your Mandrill account into the text box shown below in the Swym Dashboard, Save your settings and your Swym-Mailchimp integration should now be completely set up.
